Our History
We are an active Club, with a long history and strong traditions:
- Further Discoveries about the Tayleur is a curious little article recounting some events in the aftermath of the sinking. It was written in 1981 by E. Ni Lamhna.
- Competitive Diving describes the clubs involvement in competitions such as the Davy Jones and the Gala. It was written in 1981 by Jack Meade.
- The Boyne Water is a humerous article describing a 'search & recovery operation conducted by Club Members in 1969.
- Glaucus - A Club Crest Comes of Age is an article written by Tom Shakespeare in 1981 for the Club's 25th Anniversary Magazine.
- The Making of a Trophy is another article about Glaucus, the Club Trophy, written by Tom Shakespeare in 1981 for the Club's 25th Anniversary Magazine.
- Twenty One Years is a very interesting article written in 1977 by Tom Shakespeare reviewing the first twenty-one years of the Club's history.
- Musings From The Minutes provides some soundbite sized snapshots of events from the early years of the Club. It was written by Frank Hand in 1977.
- The Discovery Of The Tayleur was one of the key events both in the history of the Club and of Irish diving in general. It was written in 1977 by Billy Crowley.
With a high percentage of instructors among our members we are actively involved in training and the running of CFT (Irish Underwater Council), our parent organisation.
Many of our members both past and present have served in high positions in CFT, of which our Club was a founding member. Three of our current members are Moniteur **** Instructors and one a Moniteur *** Instructor. Others have served as CFT President, on the Technical Commision or as National Diving Officers.
We've had a bright and varied past and having reached our 50th anniversary we look forward to a bright and varied future.
