The Sea Urchins are our junior section and a very active and lively bunch they are too! We hope to expand this page into an entire section of the website but we need articles, stories, photos.

For the moment here are a couple of items that were submitted:

A poem

Water, water everywhere,
There's such a lot to drink,
That's what happens
When I snorkel in the sink.
I snorkelled in the pool,
I drank that as well,
So they put me in the sea.
I drank an awful lot.
Next time I go there
I will just bathe my feet.

Junior Fun Gala

A report from Kyle and Dean about the Fun Gala held at the end of last season.

On the 27/5/00 we had a fun gala. There were six races in the gala. The first race was one length. The second race was two lengths. There was a candle race where you had to swim one length with the candle still lighting.

There was a relay race where you had to duck dive to the bottom of the pool grab a stick and snorkel to your partner. You had to hand the stick to him. He then had to snorkel back to the other end.

The next event was not a race. You had two minutes to collect as many 1p's,2p's and 5p's as you could. The team with the most money won.

Then two guys from the Sea Urchins demonstrated monofinning in a race.

Everyone got changed and went into the dressing rooms to get their medals. Dean got two gold medals and Kyle got one bronze one silver and two gold medals. We then got sweets and went home.

I Love the Sea

I love the sea so, As walking along the shore I go,
And I see so many things.
The seagulls fly
So high in the sky,
While the fish swim
So deep in that deep blue sea.
I love to swim in the sea,
And all my worries seem to flee,
I love the sea,
I love the sea,
I love the sea so much.

The Mullingar Swim

Both Ciaran Hayes (Aged 11) and Eoghan Brennan (Aged 10) took part in the Junior race of the Mullingar Fin Swim in September. The weather was fantastic, the water was warm and they both enjoyed the experience. Here is what Eoghan had to say about the finswim:

When I got to the lake I was wondering if I should do the swim. So in the end I did it.

3,2,1 GO. We were off. After a while I fell behind. At the half way point two people got on the boat but not me! Even though I was last now, I kept on going.

So now you know it's the taking part that counts and not the winning.
